Board of Directors

The AMSA Board of Directors is elected by the membership of the association. Each year, a nominations committee puts forward at least two candidates for each position being elected.

The board consists of the Executive Committee (President-Elect, President, Past President and Treasurer) and nine directors. The directors serve two-year terms. The Executive Director is the chief staff officer of the association and serves as an exofficio member of the board.

Board members' terms begin at the end of the annual Reciprocal Meat Conference.

Presiden

Eric Berg is President and has previously served on the board both as director and RMC Chair. He is Associate Head at the Department of Animal Sciences at North Dakota State University.

Rhonda Miller, Ph.D. 
Past President

Rhonda Miller has served on the Board of Directors since 2016. Rhonda is a professor in the meat science section in the Department of Animal Science. She holds appointments on the Faculty of Food Science and Technology and the Graduate Faculty of Nutrition.

Steve Larsen started is serving as President-elect for the association. He also served previously on the board as director.  Steve works for the National Pork Board.

Dustin Boler has served on the Board of Directors since 2016. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Meat Science at the University of Illinois.

Jennie Hodgen is a newly elected director and has served on the Board of Directors since June of 2017. She is currently Senior Account Manager of Food Animal Resource Management Team at Merck Animal Health.

 David McKenna is a newly elected director and has served on the Board of Directors since June of 2018. He is currently the Director of Meat Research Applications at Tyson Foods, Inc.

Steven Shackelford is a newly elected director and has served on the Board of Directors since June of 2018. He is currently a Research Food Technologist at USDA Agricultural Research Service.

Amy Steward has served on the Board of Directors since 2016. She is a Principal Scientist at Tyson Foods for the McDonald’s Research and Development team.

Keith Underwood is a newly elected director and has served on the Board of Directors since June of 2018. He is currently an Associate Professor at South Dakota State University.

Tommy Wheeler has served on the Board of Directors since June of 2017. He is currently Research Leader for the Meat Safety and Quality at USDA Agricultural Research Service.

Dale Woerner has served on the Board of Directors since 2016. He is an Associate Professor and the Cargill Endowed Professorship in Meat Science and Sustainability in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University
